My first Hackintosh

Media_httpwwwjanolepe_kcbju

I recently purchased a Dell Mini 10v with the intent of installing OS X on it and turning it into a “hackintosh”, or, as I like to call it, the poor man’s Macintosh. It’s not the speediest thing on the planet but it runs OS X, has no major problems, is small and portable, and works great as a netbook and a design/development desktop (after the 2GB RAM upgrade). I posted a video of the RAM upgrade over at TuxMedia.tv. Great resources out there for this kind of stuff and I suggest that if you have been tempted to do this, do some research, make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into, and then take the plunge. The water’s great!

  1. Congratulations !! So what you do you have on it, like do you have the iLife package ? I just got iLife 09 and I'm loving the new things than it can do.

  2. I have iLife 09, iWork09 (though I'll probably never use it), Photoshop CS4,the usual staple of Firefox, uTorrent, Skype, Seemic Desktop, Front Row(love the trailers!), and I use Coda for my web development stuff. Even havea couple of Popcap Games on here, Peggle and Plants vs Zombies. Love it allso far! iPhoto has made the best impression on me so far.

  3. OOoo man I am almost willing to promise you that you will be using them all before too long. iPhoto and iMovie are my fav, my last youtube video I made with iMovie it was easy and it took half the time to edit then it did before and it looks twice as good.iPhoto's faces will blow you away, I am wishing I had a bigger hard drive so I could put all 10 GB of my pictures on my mac so I could iPhoto on them all. Safari 09 is sweet!! I just starting using it tonight and I'm loving it.and of course there is GarageBand which I have not used yet but, I'm planning on playing with the podcast as well as the learn an instrument.
