Battlefield 2142 Central Opened

My buddy Hee will remember us discussing this. I’ve opened the doors to my new Battlefield 2142 website. All the good short names were taken so I ended up with bf2142central.com. I have a feeling that there’s going to be a lot of competition from existing Battlefield 2 websites and a lot of BF2 players seem to have a huge hate-on for BF2142. But whatever, take a look, check it out, you might like it. At least take a look, damnit!

For this site I’ve decided to try my fourth different CMS script, Joomla.

Even if you don’t play Battlefield 2 you’ll still enjoy these movies. Created entirely in the game and using some hilarious sound tracks and voice overs from such comedies as Monty Python, these are truly entertaining. The first one is quite a bit funnier than the second one, so I actually suggest you watch Mine 2 first and leave the best for last.

BF2 Euro Force delayed in lieu of 1.21

Will the Battlefield 2 booster pack, Euro Force, ever be released? It was supposed to come out tomorrow, but due to problems introduced in the recent 1.2 patch, EA and Dice are now at work on patch 1.21. So Euro Force has been pushed back again

Listen up Troops,

Although patch 1.2 included several fixes that we know were eagerly awaited, it unfortunately introduced some new issues. These are being addressed immediately and we are working around the clock to resolve those. Patch 1.21 (coming soon) will be tested in a limited beta with select Battlefield community members starting as early as this week. Weâ€™re doing this to ensure a clean release of 1.21. In addition, we have decided to postpone the Euro Force Booster Pack until sometime after the release of the updated 1.21 patch.

Stick to this web space for additional information soon.

On a more pleasant note, Battlefield 2 hit somewhat of a milestone last night with over 52,000 simultaneous players. This is the highest number of players weâ€™ve seen at one time for Battlefield 2 and almost 4 times more than the peak number of Battlefield 1942.

Battlefield 2 Community Update

There has been a new community update posted today over at the Battlefield 2 website. It addresses the recent patch release as well as the Euro Force booster pack. Here’s what they had to say:

Patch 1.2 is out and we hope you are all enjoying the changes. For the most part, the initial response from the community has been very positive. Weâ€™re pleased to be able to make your gameplay experience more pleasant.

The next big addition to Battlefield will be the Battlefield: Euro Force booster pack, which will be released on February 21st. In addition to the release of Euro Force, we are preparing an updated version of the editor for release at roughly the same time.

On a less pleasant note, there is an issue with 1.2 and some Special Forces maps. All variants of Leviathan and the 32 and 64 player variants of Night Flight have a crash bug. We have advised our ranked server providers to remove these maps from their map rotation until a resolution has been set in place. We will be able to provide more news in future updates. I stress, this is only an issue with the Special Forces expansion pack and nothing more.

There have been a few comments regarding AT rockets passing through targets. We have noted the issue and are working towards a solution.

Total Battlefield 2

The Battlefield 2 fan site has an interview with DICE, the developer, discussing the upcoming changes in Patch 1.2. Most notably to me and probably Chalk.Two is the fact that rank requirements have been lowered again. Sweet! We should be able to get higher ranks more easily now.
Official Change Log for Patch 1.2:

Dolphin Diving is no longer possible
Players can no longer jump and shoot at the same time
Prone Spamming is now fixed
Sprint exploit is now fixed
Helicopter now carry 8 missiles rather than 14
TV-Guided missile now have a shorter range
Damage decreased from M134
Hit points on all air vehicles has been reduced
AA missile lock has been improved
All support kit weapons have been adjusted
All Sniper rifles have been adjusted
Sa80 has been adjusted
G3A3 has been adjusted
Reload while sprinting has been enabled
Medic defibrillator paddles have been adjusted. They now reload while not in use.

Fixed bug in TV guided missiles of Havoc helicopter
The LAV25 now no longer shoots through penetrable materials.
Vehicles no longer disappear when viewed from some vehicles with a HUD (e.g. Tanks).
Performance gain found in static mesh rendering.
Detonation radius from grenade launcher explosions has been reduced.
Grenade launcher projectiles now have a minimum distance.
Fixed bug with capturing a flag from outside of the flag radius.
Fixed map selection screen issue on Wetlands
Being able to pass through walls using a spinning tank turret has been fixed. It has also been address on all rotating vehicle positions just to be safe.
Tanks taking damage from the terrain has been reduced
The Red/Blue nametag bug has been addressed
The disappearance of tank projectiles and grenade launcher projectiles during online play has been improved and should occur less frequently
The distance for throwing hand grenade, ammo packs, and health packs has been increased

2GB of RAM: Do We Really Need that Much?

How much RAM should a contemporary computer system have? This is a very important question for many users out there. In our new test session we compared the performance of systems equipped with 1GB and 2GB of RAM.

Personally I have to say, absolutely yes, if you are playing Battlefield 2. I’m running on 1.5GB right now and had I not ordered the wrong RAM earlier this week, it’d be at 2GB right now.

…has been an interesting one. Saturday was my brother’s birthday. He’s now 23 years old and showed up for dinner at my parents totally hung over. Poor guy didn’t look so good, even after he threw up in my parents’ toilet, but hey, that’s what you get for partying all night before

Otherwise it’s been a pretty relaxing weekend. Finally got my car’s oil changed on Friday, watched The Cave and The Transporter 2, got my Legion of Merit ribbon in Battlefield 2, my buddy Tibby keeps creeping up on my global score as well as awards in BF2, and I tried out a bit of a free trial for Guildwars. Now it’s a little bit of Erin Brockovich and then some more BF2 before getting a good night’s sleep.

Battlefield 2: Euro Force

The first of at least two and hopefully many booster packs for Battlefield 2 is titled Euro Force and will be available for download on February 8th. I can’t wait. Here’s what’s new:

Three New Maps
“Operation Smoke Screen”, “The Great Wall of China and “Taraba Quarry”.
New weaponry
Each Euro soldier comes equipped with a new primary weapon, from the FNP90 to the Benelli Tactical Shotgun.
Four new vehicles
Including the (in) famous Eurofighter.

Apache inside Iron Gator

Tonight (Chalk.One) me and Tibby (Chalk.Two) had a ton of fun on the Iron Gator map in Battlefield 2 and I managed to fly the Apache chopper inside the Iron Gator aircraft carrier. Cool screenshot below.

New desktop running Ubuntu 5.10. After a long time without Linux, I’m back to dual booting. Let’s hope it holds and I can restrain myself from staying in Windows after playing Battlefield 2.

I’m a little ashamed that for the past month, I’ve had no trace of Linux on my system. The reason: My addiction to Battlefield 2 which forced me to stay in Windows for most of my time and thus use Windows apps. I’m even extremely ashamed that I had to replace my linux based firewall/router with a Windows version so that I could get my wireless network working. Ah yes, it’s been a sad state of afairs in my apartment lately…

Battlefield 1.2 Patch Info

Supposedly EA is working on a 1.2 patch for Battlefield 2. Here’s the highlights as stated by EA:

- Helicopter now carry 8 missiles rather than 14

- TV-Guided missile now have a shorter range

- Hit points on all air vehicles has been reduced

- AA missile lock has been improved

- Support kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy

- Sniper kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy

- Anti-Tank kits have had their primary weapons adjusted for accuracy

- “Dolphin Diving” is no longer possible

- Players can no longer jump and shoot at the same time

Awarded to recognize exemplary behavior, efficiency, and fidelity in active service.
* IAR: 14 kills
* IAR: No Team kills/damage/vehicle damage
* 50 Total time played
Even though this one was on my todo list, it surprised me. I was gunning in an MEC attack chopper with a good pilot and racked up 12 kills in a row. Then I shot down a helicopter for 2 more kills and that’s what did it.Battlefield 2

Veteran Engineer Badge

After several hours of trying I finally received this badge last night. Good thing, too, as it was getting close to 1am. This turned out to be a lot harder than I thought. First I thought the best way to go about it was to repair my commander’s equipment but then nobody ever destroyed it, or if they did, I got killed trying to repair it. I finally tried to get this badge while repairing a helicopter in flight on Mashtuur City and thanks to SPEVEL69, it worked. Took a long time and if he wasn’t so helpful, I doubt I would have gotten it done.Battlefield 2

Basic Badges Complete

I managed to get my final basic badge tonight, the Basic Command Badge. Also got this nice Armored Service Ribbon. There’s still quite a few ribbons out there for me to get but most require a certain amount of time. My next goal is to get the Veteran Engineer Badge. If I understand correctly, all I need is to get 10 repair points in a round. Shouldn’t be too hard.Battlefield 2

My goal in Battlefield 2 latetly is to get all the basic badges and all the ribbons. Last night I got two more badges and am now missing only the Basic Command badge. That one seemed so easy to get my first time around and now it’s just not happening. Getting 40 command points prior to the round ending is quite difficult and a lot of it is out of my control. While trying for this badge, I was an engineer, just sitting at the edge of the map doing my commanding bit when all of a sudden I received my Veteran Engineer Combat badge. That was a nice surprise.

Explosive Ordinance 2

I finally got this tonight after getting 13 kills with C4/Claymore/AT Mine. I did it on Karkand by using C4 all the time. I basically ran towards an enemy, tossed C4 at his feet and then blew both of us up. I ended up with 2 points in the round (wow!) but I did get the badge!

I also got the Basic Aviator badge by spending 10 minutes in an airplane and realizing just how bad I am at trying to bomb things.Battlefield 2

God, I was trying to get the Explosive Ordinance Badge tonight. It requires 13 kills with claymore, AT mine, or C4. I tried it on Karkand by just dropping claymore all over the place. I did get 8 kills with it before being banned for excessive teamkilling, lol. Guess I’ll try another time and hope for smarter teammates.Battlefield 2

Battlefield 2 Patched

After today’s release of the Battlefield 2 v1.0.3 patch and some 160 changes to the game, including a general lowering of the number of points required for new ranks, I have gained 4 ranks and got to unlock 4 new weapons. YEAH!
I’m now a Gunnery Sergeant and unlocked the DAO-12, G36C, PKM, and L85A1. This leaves me with only the M95 sniper rifle and the Mk3A1 shotgun left to unlock. I’m so happy that finally I don’t have to hunt down those stupid points so much anymore.

Since I’ve been sniffling and sneezing all day I stayed home and instead worked on some things on my home network and this site. I’ve gotten hold of another computer and set it up as my firewall. I have really taken a liking to this ClarkConnect package. Aside from that, I’ve added a script and a page on here that displays the status of my Ventrilo server. I use that so that I can communicate with my buddies while playing BF2. I might also add an Xfire script if I can manage to. So keep checking this page to see if I’m playing BF2, because if I am, I’ll be connected to the Ventrilo server.Battlefield 2

I’ve tried Battlefield 2 in Windows Vista before and it did work, technically. I think I’ll give it another try tonight and see if the performance is good enough to play. Some potential sticking points are whether Teamspeak 2 will work and whether my Razor Diamondback mouse’s drivers will work. If not, then that’s a showstopper right there…. we shall see.

Lance Corporal – Again

Not wanting to wait for a response from EA as to whether or not they can restore my previous stats, I’ve started over and made it to Lance Corporal.
It took a mere two nights to accumulate nearly 1,500 points. Now if only I had as much free time every night, but alas, work is calling and my week long vacation is over today. Oh well, I have a feeling that my new account’s stats will be much better than my previous ones, now that I know what I’m doing. The G36C that I just unlocked should help with that as well. However, I still hold a tiny amount of faith that EA will be able to restore my previous stats…Battlefield 2

My Stats Gone?

So apparently I accidentally deleted my Battlefield 2 stats yesterday while creating an account at Fileplanet. After I created a new account there, it told me that I had two existing profiles and I deleted one of them, wanting to avoid clutter. Not knowing just how closely ANY Gamespy online service is to my GamespyID which is my Battlefield 2 account, I had no idea that I was flushing 115 hours of playing time down the drain. The strange thing is that all the online BF2 stats sites still report my previous stats. Maybe there’s some hope but I think it’s just because they are cached. In any case, I’ve emailed EA and will continue to email any EA representative that I can get an email address of, until they store my old stats. They’ve gotta have backups of some sort…. Let’s pray.

So I finally reached the 10,500 points plateau, enough to up my in-game rank to Corporal.
What comes with that priviledge is another unlockable weapon. I’ve been pondering this for nearly two weeks now and made my decision to get the G3 rifle for the Assault class. I’ve been experimenting with that gun and the L85A1 and while the L85A1 has a sweet scope, the G3 can’t be beat for accuracy and stopping power. I can’t wait to put it to use!Battlefield 2

In my pursuit of 10,500 points, I got two of my best rounds yet tonight. First 128 points, then 125 points. It was sweeeet! Sorry Brokn_Arrow that I couldn’t keep playing in the same server, but I got booted for “inactivity”… Tomorrow I should get my new mouse and my Corporal unlock I also got my Valorious Merit Ribbon in one of those rounds!Battlefield 2

Knife & Pistol Badge

I made it my mission today to get the knife and the pistol badge in BF2. Each requires 7 kills with the respective weapon. It was easier than I thought! I actually ended up with a pretty good round and a score of over 50.

Embarrasing

Just last night, playing BF2, I died in such a stupid fashion I wanted to smack myself. I was taking over a flag and had placed C4 by the entrance in case any vehicles came. I was lying with my M4 out, waiting for the flag to go up. Then I hear an APC coming up, switch to C4, don’t realize that I’m still holding the last piece of C4, drop it in front of me, then detonate, blowing myself up. By that time, the APC was past my C4 and probably had himself a good chuckle….Battlefield 2

The stats for Battlefield 2 had overloaded Gamespy’s server to the point of it resembling a DDOS attack. So they’ve been restricted to a few select sites for now. My stats here don’t work but I am told that EA is working on a new system that would allow anyone to view their stats via XML. Once that is available I will update my code here to make my stats visible on my site once again.

Lance Corporal!

Last night my mission was to gain another 150 points to make it across the 1000 mark required to reach the rank of Lance Corporal in Battlefield 2. What’s all the fuss about? When you become Lance Corporal, you get to unlock a new weapon.

Playing with my friend watching over my shoulder, I let my team to a 1-0 defeat as the Commander. That was the most frustrating and incredible thing all at once as we saw the score go from 200-200 to 1-1 and then losing by that 1 point.

One round into the next game, however, I was promoted to Lance Corporal. After logging out and back in I got to choose a new weapon. I chose the new sniper rifle. Why? Sniping is the one area that I have a particularly hard time with so I thought some extra firepower might do the trick. Has it helped? Maybe. It’s hard to tell. It’s still difficult to kill an enemy with a single shot. From a long distance it usually takes at least 2, mostly 3.

So now I’m thinking that maybe instead of trying to eliviate a weakness, I should have bolstered a strength and upgraded my Special Forces or Assault weapon. But what’s done is done is done is done…

I’ve been playing Battlefield 2 for a little over a week now and it’s been tons of fun. I recommend you at least try out the demo. Just beware that you will need a very powerful system to enjoy all its goodness.
